Joel Richard Clarke, 28, of Brampton, Ont., was charged with the first\u002Ddegree murder of Claudia Iacono.
The salon is located between two car dealerships on an industrial stretch of Jean-Talon St. According to the Quebec business registry, the salon is owned by another company that lists Iacono as its administrator.the SPVM’s major-crimes unit, said at this point they don’t know the motive for the murder and he can’t say whether it has something to do with the Montreal Mafia.
“I don’t want to say it’s Mafia, but … we don’t have the motive right now,” Caron said at a press briefing Wednesday afternoon. “It’s basically pretty difficult to say if it’s the Mafia. But Ms. Iacono, you’ve heard about what’s going on, so it’s possible that it’s related to the Mafia. But for sure the guy is accused of first-degree murder and it’s because he wanted to do something to her or other persons around her.
He also said Clarke was known to police and is related to other violent events. Caron said the investigation is continuing and there could be other arrests.Iacono was the daughter-in-law of Moreno Gallo, a very influential figure on the Calabrian side of the Montreal Mafia before he was killed in Mexico a decade ago. Gallo was killed three years to the day after Nicolo Rizzuto was killed in his home by a sniper who was positioned outside.
