Following hundreds of recent sex-abuse lawsuits, the Boy Scouts of America is filing for bankruptcy
Boy Scouts of America. Photo: Stewart Cohen/Getty Images . NBC News reports that by filing for Chapter 11 protection, the national youth organization seeks to establish a plan to compensate victims who allegedly suffered sex abuse at the hands of trusted leaders decades ago.
According to a statement from a Boy Scouts of America spokesman, the organization’s bankruptcy filing has “two key objectives: equitably compensate victims who were harmed during their time in Scouting, and continue carrying out its mission for years to come.” Per the statement, the organization plans to do this through the creation of a Victims Compensation Trust.
