A new dawn

A huge number of local people were employed there and the cotton factory was so successful and busy it had its own train line delivering freight to and from the canal. As industrial needs changed, it suffered from declining use and closed down in the 1950s.

When plans for a shopping park were aborted due to concerns about the retail market, fears grew for the future of the historic building. Its land was temporarily used as storage for the DAF Trucks factory in Leyland when it was hit be delayed deliveries. Its £26m plan for the wider site will allow other businesses to set up in Chorley as it erects 13 units across 10 buildings and 405,000 sq ft of industrial and commercial space. The wider site has been allocated for landscaping, pedestrian routes, a car park and a takeaway food business.
