Yeo Siew Hua, 39, whose mystery thriller Stranger Eyes had its world premiere at the 81st Venice Film Festival on Sept 5. The movie, about a man whose baby daughter goes missing, was written and directed by Yeo, and is the first Singaporean film to compete for the festival’s prestigious Golden Lion award.

Another worthy piece of literature that I am reading is the comic strip Mafalda by Argentine illustrator Joaquin Lavado, also known as Quino. It follows a precocious little girl named Mafalda as she muses about life and the pains of growing up in a country like Argentina. But because of this unhealthy consumption practice, I have rediscovered the joys of poetry. The short form is perfect for when I need something bite-size. I won’t do it cover to cover, but just a random flip of the pages to see how the poem speaks to me today, like a tarot reading.
