Boohoo Man blasted for glorifying gang violence in 'stereotypical' balaclava range with only Black models by LeahMahon_
FAST-FASHION brand Boohoo Man has been blasted for selling balaclavas worn by Black and mixed raced models with critics accusing them of harmful stereotyping and glorying gang violence.
Social media users responded to the range with outrage and accused the high profile brand of perpetuating racial stereotypes and making gang culture seem fashionable.The website read: “Calling all bad boys! Remain a mystery in the latest trend, a balaclava. We’ve got a colourful selection so you can work the streetwear look without looking too dangerous.”
Writing on Twitter, she said: “BOOHOO MAN capitalising off of the current gang culture and reinforcing negative stereotypes knowing many who are committing violent crimes/murders are wearing this and they are essentially encouraging this culture/criminality.Another social media user said: “Boohooman selling balaclavas using Black models and calling them ‘bad boys’ in the caption.
