Boland scored three tries to lead 19-0 after 23 minutes and while the Cheetahs fought back well to go 29-25 ahead in the second half, winger Lunathi Nxele’s hat-trick try with 13 minutes to go helped the hosts claim an ultimately convincing victory. The match was former Springbok Steyn’s first in charge of the Free Staters after taking over from Izak van der Westhuizen, while ex-Cheetahs coach Hawies Fourie is in charge at Boland.
