The body of Timothy van Asche, a 36-year-old man from Pretoria, was found in the Hennops River on Thursday morning, two days after his vehicle was discovered submerged in the water. Search efforts were ongoing following the discovery of the vehicle on Monday. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.

The body of missing 36-year-old Timothy van Asche from Pretoria was discovered in the Hennops River around 10:30 on Thursday morning. The National Sea Rescue Institute ( NSRI ) Hartbeespoort Dam station commander Arthur Crewe confirmed that Timothy's body was found approximately 2 kilometers from where his vehicle was found submerged in the river on Monday. This discovery followed continued search efforts initiated after the vehicle was found.

Timothy was last seen on CCTV footage leaving his home in the same vehicle at 03:54 on Monday morning, January 20. His last known contact was at 21:10 the previous evening, Sunday. Crewe stated that NSRI Hartbeespoort Dam received reports of a vehicle in the Hennops River, located on the border of Gauteng and North West Province, at 09:48 on Monday. NSRI Hartbeespoort Dam duty crew, Hartbeespoort SRU, SAPS Water Policing and Diving Services, Hartbeespoort Law Enforcement, and Tshwane emergency services water rescue unit joined Police patrol officers at the scene to commence a search for any potential occupants of the vehicle. The vehicle was subsequently recovered from the river and handed over to the police for further investigation. Crewe expressed his condolences to Timothy van Asche's family during this difficult time. In an unrelated incident, the NSRI Hartbeespoort Dam duty crew and Hartbeespoort SRU are also actively searching for another missing man, a fisherman who disappeared in the vicinity of the Oberon Resort, Hartbeespoort Dam. At 15:36 on Sunday, January 19, NSRI Hartbeespoort Dam duty crew and Hartbeespoort SRU were alerted by the South African Police Services regarding a missing fisherman near Oberon Resort. The NSRI Hartbeespoort Dam rescue craft Sea Legs was deployed, and NSRI joined the police in a search operation. During the search, the missing fisherman's canoe was located and recovered from the area where he was last seen fishing. Crewe confirmed that SAPS Water Policing and Diving Services, assisted by NSRI Hartbeespoort Dam and Hartbeespoort SRU, are continuing their search efforts for the missing fisherman.
