George Fewtrell walked 27 miles to Wales from his home in Wirral
George, 85, from Neston in Wirral , went missing last Tuesday, June 25 from the Bridge Court area of Neston . He reportedly set off on foot towards Flintshire. He is known to have walked 27 miles to Holywell, where he was last captured on CCTV on Greenfield Street at the junction with New Road at 12.42am on Wednesday, June 26.READ MORE: Sir Keir Starmer is Prime Minister and is heading to Liverpool
North Wales Police today confirmed that its officers had "sadly discovered a body this afternoon". Superintendent Jon Bowcott of North Wales Police said: “Formal identification is yet to take place, but George’s family have been informed and are being supported by officers.” “This is not the outcome any of us had hoped for, including the dedicated team of officers searching for him. I would like to thank the public for their support and clear, genuine concern for George during the search, which has been vital and helped us progress the investigation.
“Most importantly, all of our thoughts remain with George’s family at this incredibly sad and difficult time, and I would ask that their privacy is respected.”
