“The Price is Right” has lost a prize far more valuable than the cash and cars given away on the show: legendary host Bob Barker.
Barker hosted"The Price is Right" for 35 years before retiring in 2007. Since premiering on CBS in 1972, Barker taped 6,482 episodes of the show in which contestants competed by guessing the prices of merchandise to win money and glitzy"showcase" prizes.
He also hosted the Miss Universe and Miss USA pageants from 1967 to 1987 before deciding to part ways with the organization due to their refusal to stop gifting furs as prizes. Burnet said in a statement, “I am so proud of the trailblazing work Barker and I did together to expose the cruelty to animals in the entertainment industry including working to improve the plight of abused and exploited animals in the United States and internationally. We were great friends over these 40 yrs. he will be missed.”
