Historic England wants to hear the stories of inspirational people from all walks of life.

Londoners celebrate the unveiling of a blue plaque for Claudia Jones, who played a key role in founding the Notting Hill CarnivalHistoric England said it wanted to hear the stories of inspirational people from all walks of life, including those whose history has been hidden or largely forgotten.

Duncan Wilson, chief executive of Historic England, said blue plaques "have real power to inspire local pride now and for generations to come”.To mark the start of the eight-week nomination period opening, a plaque was unveiled for music icon George Harrison at his birthplace in Wavertree, Liverpool.
