Third rounder from last June is still to be assigned so he remains in play for Vancouver
Fans of the Vancouver Canadians might find interesting who the Lansing Lugnuts landed and who they did not.
Sam Dykstra, a reporter for mlb.com, tweeted last month that Kloffenstein, 18, would open the season at extended spring training. He and Groshans, 19, were teammates at the same Magnolia, Texas high school. Groshans — listed as both a shortstop and third baseman by the Blue Jays — is Toronto’s No. 6 prospect according to mlb.com and No. 5 going off of Baseball America.
Groshans was the first Toronto first-rounder to not spend at least a portion of his inaugural pro season with Vancouver since right-hander Jeff Hoffman, the ninth overall pick in 2014 who had Tommy John surgery that summer and didn’t make his pro debut until the following season in advanced single-A.
