Will the Blue Jays home run jacket be part of the party in the team\u0027s dugout when the regular season begins next month?
Not much to read between those lines. Consider that the
overall tone of the Jays off season was to heighten the seriousness of the team’s approach, on multiple levels and you could see where this was headed. While other teams around Major League Baseball have unique home run celebrations, the Jays certainly was near the top of the league in its elaborate use of the jacket. While innocent enough, there were times when it was perceived as crossing the line to being just a little too frivolous.
Schneider isn’t the type to outlaw fun, of course, but clearly doesn’t think there will be an issue with a toned-down celly. That said, the mindset seems to be that there are bigger things to celebrate.“Home runs are great and I think you celebrate those,” Schneider said. “I think the overall message, whether it’s putting a jacket on or doing something in the dugout, we want to celebrate more than just home runs.
“We want to focus on catching the ball. We want to focus on getting on base. Things like that. It’s totally up to the players. We’ve talked about it briefly but we’ll see where we land with it.”
