The Blue Jays won’t soon forget what transpired in July.
“We’ve had our ups and downs and a lot of things happened right before the break,” said Matt Chapman before his two-run homer paced Sunday’s 4-1 win over Detroit. “But credit our team, we didn’t really let any of that get to us. Sometimes something like that helps , I don’t really know what righted the ship. But we’ve got a good thing going right now, two months of baseball, a little bit of October and hopefully more.
“ is one of the things everyone talks about,” admitted Chapman, “but it’s more curiosity about names thrown out and where they might end up. We’re not in those conversations with the front office.Article content Since an 0-for-16 skid, Chapman’s pace includes reaching base in 10 straight games, part of a 16-for-33 run at the plate. He’s well positioned to break his career high of 27 homers with Oakland, while reaching 20 RBI the past 20 games.
Barrios is also in a July groove and was spot on with his curve, fastball and backdoor sinker, fanning six in all, improving to 8-4.
