A man wanted on warrants was being pursued in the underground sewer system on Tuesday in Bloomington.
Bloomington police tweeted that the man was in police custody and being removed from a storm drain. In another tweet, IU officials said campus would resume normal operations, but Franklin Hall will reopen Wednesday.
BPD Capt. Ryan Pedigo said police did not want people speculating that the bangs were gunshots. When asked if they were using tear gas, he said not at this time.Police activities remain ongoing. People south of Third Street to the area of First and Walnut streets may hear loud bangs in the near future. Police ask that everyone continue to avoid the area.
IUB Update: IUPD is on scene near Dunn Meadow at Indiana Ave near the drain exit. Occupants of Franklin Hall should shelter in place. All others avoid the area.An alert from Indiana University states a person was seen entering the storm drain near First and Walnut. IU police are monitoring the exit on campus in Dunn Meadow near Franklin Hall. The building was evacuated and will remain closed until Wednesday.
