While it's easy to blame Instagram for teen girls' anxiety and low self-satisfaction, we're forgetting that these issues existed prior to social media. Here's what really needs to change.

Teens are exquisitely sensitive to social comparisons. In 2001, parents, teachers, and politicians in the UK called for a “Summit” to address what they saw as a self-image crisis in teen girls caused by unrealistic models.
