The singer will perform an exclusive set as part of the celebrations
The singer, best known for Murder on the Dancefloor, will carry out the all important switch on moment to trigger four months of iconic illuminations. Ellix-Bextor recently performed on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury and will deliver an exclusive set during her appearance in Blackpool.
She said: "I’m so excited to be coming back to Blackpool to perform a few of my favourite tracks and to switch on the iconic Blackpool Illuminations! I can’t wait to see you all there!" The event will take place on Friday, September 1 and will be free to all to access with no tickets required.The celebration will include a free family party with live music and family entertainment.
Another element of the celebration is the Nickelodeon Grand Parade - a spectacular procession along the Golden Mile, showcasing the beloved characters from the world's most popular children's TV channel.
Among the performers in the grand parade will be Lancashire’s own 2nd Rossendale Scout Group Band, a hugely talented group of young musicians who have performed all over the UK, including an appearance at Windsor Castle in front of the Queen. Cllr Lynn Williams, Leader of Blackpool Council, said: “We are thrilled to announce Sophie Ellis-Bextor as this year’s Switch-On star. She is a pop phenomenon with a fabulous recording career and someone who captured the hearts of the public during lockdown. We can’t wait to see her light up Blackpool.”
