'There would be no cooking on site'
Plans to build a new coffee shop in a Blackburn neighbourhood have sparked furious protests from residents.
Locals believe the proposal will bring odour, sound nuisance and parking issues to their doorstep, if AA Properties get the go-ahead for the venture at 117 Whalley Range. A petition signed by 23 nearby residents has now been sent to the council.
“Should the application be recommended for approval, it will be reported to the planning and highways committee for determination.A supporting statement submitted with the application says: “The application site comprises a two-storey, mid-terrace property located within the ‘Inner Urban’ area of Blackburn, within the vibrant Whalley Range area, on the edge of the designated centre within a commercialised setting with a range of shops and local services present.
“There would be no cooking on site. Three customer off-road parking spaces have been secured nearby. Permitting the proposal will bring about additional job creation for local people as well as a positive supply-chain impact. “The applicant considers the location as ideal, within walking distance of a high-density residential catchment area and within a cluster of existing shops that are mainly accessed on foot from the surrounding side streets.”
