"Across her decades-long career, Angela Bassett has continued to deliver transcendent performances that set new standards in acting," Academy President, Janet Yang, said.

Mel Brooks and Carol Littleton will also receive the award, whilst Michelle Satter will receive the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Awards. The Governors' Awards will take place in Los Angeles on November 18. Last year's awards went to Euzhan Palcy, Diane Warren, Peter Weir and Michael J Fox.
