In 2001's Millennial Visions, Black Panther gets a redesign that would be better suited for a female street-level hero like Tigra.
Costumes are an area of frequent change within superhero comics, seen clearly in a redesign that Marvel Comics' Black Panther experienced at the turn of the millennium. In 2001, Black Panther received a terrible costume that actually would’ve been perfect for a different Avenger.
Marvel Knights: Millennial Visions was a gallery book featuring art work and a brief synopsis that imagined how Marvel’s talent might depict these characters in future storylines. Such wild takes include an A.I. version of Captain America, Black Widow as the mother of over a hundred children created from Spider-Man’s DNA, and an undead mutated Bullseye. Previously there was an X-Men version of Millennial Visions that imagined where stories involving the X-team, The Exiles, would go next.
From a physical standpoint, this reimagined version is a lot flashier than T’Challa’s Black Panther. The black cat-like bodysuit remains, but she’s also covered in a lot of gold. Her claws aren’t a part of the suit but gold extensions on her fingers, similar to something Catwoman might wear. She’s also wearing a golden necklace, rings, and belt. The necklace is familiar to T’Challa’s, minus the golden cat emblems.
Because this Black Panther is a cat-themed superheroine acting as a street level champion of women, this reimagining would actually be perfect for a totally different character altogether–Tigra. Tigra would already serve this role nicely, and fitting her in as an NYU student would be a great way to reboot the character for a new generation.
