Police noted that a blue and white surgical mask appeared to obscure the license plate of the BMW, and the two masked men inside it"attempted to slide and slouch lower into the seat" while a police patrol vehicle drove past them. Tapping on the driver's side door, an officer asked the driver to roll down his window. A strong odor of burnt marijuana emanated from the BMW, records state, and police ordered both men to exit the vehicle.
Several witnesses told police they saw two men, dressed in black and wearing black masks, shoot at Ward Jr. before jumping into a gray BMW and fleeing the apartment complex. One witness told police it appeared to be the same BMW from four days ago, according to an affidavit.
