Caroline Abrahams, Age UK Charity Director, said: “These figures reveal how stark inequality is in later life in our country. The Government’s own data show that a quarter of Black pensioners live in poverty compared to 17% of White pensioners. Ms Abrahams said: “Currently, average full-time earnings among Black people aged 16-64 are around £1,400 a year lower than those of White people, and many Black pensioners will have experienced a pay gap like this when younger.
