An investigation is underway after a video that appears to show two Birmingham police officers “racing” with a community member in the back seat of one of the cruisers.
in west Birmingham and television broadcasts reporting cars doing donuts and burnouts at Birmingham’s new City Walk.“The video was recorded by a community member who was in the back of one of the vehicles; the community member was unrestrained and did not appear to be in police custody at the time. Chief Scott Thurmond immediately initiated an internal investigation into this incident. The BPD Internal Affairs Division will conduct the investigation.
“So Birmingham police is out here worried about cars doing donuts in the road but yet 2 of your patrol units are out here drag racing with a female it the backseat,” one person wrote. “I understand people want to have fun but the streets of Birmingham are not the place to do it,’’ Thurmond said. “We’ve had incidents of people hit, injured and killed.”
