Six days on from grim discovery work to identify victim continues
Bin collections in parts of Salford have been suspended as police investigate a murder. Officers are hunting for more body parts after a grim discovery last Thursday .
Six days on from a horrific discovery the search continues for clues to the identity of the murder victim. It was Thursday afternoon when human remains were found in woodland at Kersal, Salford. A huge amount of resources have been deployed daily in a search of the Kersal Dale area. One possibility is that other body parts may have been disposed of in the nearby River Irwell and underwater search units have been used.
A national check of missing persons is taking place by detectives as they try to identify the human remains. It is understood that there was no clothing on the body parts which could have assisted police with identifying the victim. At this stage police have no indication as to whether the victim is local or has been killed elsewhere and their remains left in Salford.
"We have had lots of members of the public coming up to us, with plenty of questions. We have been able to engage with them and are let them know there are plenty of officers here to make sure they are safe as the CSI teams and search teams work tirelessly to work exactly who this male is that was found here."
“I want people to be reassured with our large and visible presence in the local area. We continue to search the area thoroughly by utilising specialist departments to increase our capabilities in order to ensure a wide and thorough search of the area.
