Bill Withers, who created a string of soulful songs in the ’70s that have stood the test of time, including 'Lean On Me,' has died
Bill Withers, whose soulful hits celebrated love, friendship and other forms of human connection, died Monday from heart complications, his family said. He was 81 years old.
The singer-songwriter’s iconic tunes, including “Lean On Me,” “Ain’t No Sunshine” and “Lovely Day,” remain as popular as they were when he wrote them in the 1970s. In the ensuing decades, he bowed out of music-making and largely exited from public life.
