As the big four—Google, Facebook, Amazon and Apple—grow in size, revenue and prominence, lawmakers and federal investigators are beginning to ask if these companies have made too many acquisitions, unfairly block out smaller companies in favor of their own services, and ultimately harm consumers.The House of Representatives is launching a sweeping investigation into Google, Facebook, Amazon and Apple.
The results of the investigation may inform changes in antitrust laws that would make it easier to break up these companies, according to theSeparately, federal agencies are taking the first step in their own possible antitrust probes, with the Justice Department claiming jurisdiction over Google and Apple and the Federal Trade Commission handling Amazon and Facebook. No official investigations have begun yet.
