At the beginning of every new month, I eagerly await the National Automobile Association Manufacturers of Southern Africa's monthly car sales figures to drop in my mailbox. I am obsessed with digesting this monthly report; I love seeing which cars consumers are buying the most, and without fail, there are a few surprises that leave me gasping each month.

Most South Africans are battling financially, whether with filling your tank with petrol, forking out loads of money for taxi fares, or Ubers to get to work. Not to mention electricity tariffs have gone up while we're still in Stage 6 load shedding this week and even buying groceries is painful for most because of everything being affected by inflation. Everything is more expensive, and most people are feeling the pinch.
