The Broncos took advantage of a short field after the Jaguars turned over the ball on downs when senior linebacker Skyler Voutour dropped Jaguars quarterback Ty Hawkins for a 2-yard loss at the Johnson 38 on fourth-and-1. Evans completed 23 of 32 passes for 219 yards and rushed for 45 yards and three touchdowns on 12 carries.
The Hawkins-Tavarez connection reached the end zone for 21 yards on the Jaguars’ next possession to make the score 14-0 with 0:17 left in the first. King Johnson caught an inside screen for 45 yards that led to the score. Brandeis ran 12 plays over a 7:17 span on the game’s opening series that resulted in a turnover on downs.
