Loud explosion near 2nd and L SE pic.twitter.com/QUL6qx8Dlp — Connor Wangler January 2, 2023 The Washington Examiner's Jerry Dunleavy reported the"very loud boom" shook his apartment and set off car alarms in the neighborhood.Julio-César Chávez with Reuters said the explosion happened at the Navy Yard ice rink, and that it was a big enough flash that authorities want the Department of Defense to investigate.
The blast blew a hole into the ice rink and blew out a nearby glass pane. Investigators are on their way to the scene as midnight approaches.
