The Zoom audio call to around 500 donors was hosted by the President’s campaign chair, Jennifer O’Malley and also included deputy campaign manager Quentin Fulks and pollster Molly Murphy. “The message was, ‘We are not seeing any change in polling,'” they said. The “campaign will not win if the focus remains on his age.”
It comes after his campaign emailed supporters at the weekend, claiming Mr Biden had raised more than $27m for the campaign a day after the debate. The email said that he remained the party’s best hope to defeat Trump, while calling Mr Biden’s critics a “bedwetting brigade” made up of “self-important Podcasters”, and “Maga uncles”.
Mr Biden was huddled out of sight at Camp David on Monday morning after his family reportedly urged him to continue running in the November election. Members of the Biden family gathered at the President’s countryside retreat, where they were expected to discuss his future. Some relatives have reportedly blamed his weak performance on over-preparation by his aides. A source close to Jill Biden told CBS she was not among those criticising his team.
