President Joe Biden struck a decidedly less defiant tone Friday about his tenure, saying he's made mistakes in office and will do so again.

Speaking before a gathering of Democratic donors at the Sheraton Philadelphia Hotel, Biden hit many of his usual talking points but also admitted that some things have gone wrong."I’m not saying we’ve done everything right," Biden said."And I’m going to make more mistakes."

While far from earthshaking, those comments contrast sharply with earlier statements Biden has made about his presidency. After Democrats overperformed in the midterm elections, Biden told reporters he would change nothing about what he'd done so far despite approval ratings sagging in the low 40s. During that same November appearance, Biden was asked about exit polls showing strong opposition to him seeking reelection and what impact that would have. And just a few hours before his Friday evening mea culpa, Biden took umbrage with the notion that he bore any responsibility at all for runaway inflation under his watch.

"Do I take any blame for inflation? No," Biden said Friday morning at the White House."It was already here when I got here, man. Remember what the economy was like when I got here? Jobs were hemorrhaging. Inflation was rising. We weren't manufacturing a damn thing here. We were in real economic difficulty. That's why I don't, thank you.
