Defenceman Jérémie Biakabutuka, 13, celebrates after scoring in the final minute of regulation time to lift the Charlottetown Islanders to a 3-2 win over the visiting Acadie-Bathurst Titan in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League on Dec. 31. Islanders defenceman Lane Hinkley, 19, rushes to congratulate Biakabutuka on scoring the goal, which brough a loud applause from the 2,900-plus crowd at Eastlink Centre.
“Keiran was to win the faceoff to me, and it was either shoot at the net if you have a lane or pass it to the defenceman on the other side for a one-timer. Keiran won the faceoff, and I had a lane to the net, so I said, ‘Why not shoot it with a lot of traffic?’”The goal, which brought a thunderous roar from the pro-Islanders’ crowd of 2,934 fans at Eastlink Centre for a New Year’s Eve matinee, provided a much-needed win.
