Experts call for close inspection of the terms, and also warn that time is not on the utility’s side

Energy experts have warned that the small print in a contract to provide Eskom with power needs to be scrutinised to prevent further looting of its battered coffers.

On Sunday, the mineral resources and energy department announced that the bidding process for SA’s Risk Mitigation Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme had opened. The programme is designed to, among other things, help Eskom secure enough power so it can minimise load-shedding while it repairs its ageing fleet and overcomes construction delays on the Kusile and Medupi power stations...A subscription gives you full digital access to all Times Select content.
