“I was just trying to keep my emotions intact,” Giroux said. “I knew it was going to happen, them coming out on the ice, but to actually have it happen was definitely different. But it was special.
“Anybody who knows Giroux knows he doesn’t care about any points,” Stutzle said. “He said it right before because we were going to try to get him to 1,000 points. The summer will be easier for him now. He’s had a hell of a career already and he’s got a lot of things ahead of him.Article contentGiroux knew he was close to the milestone at the start of the season, but said he tried not to look ahead.
“He’s been better than advertised for me,” Smith said. “His ability to think the game and all those things are great. His compete level is really high, and you can see why he’s been in the game so long. Giroux has 34 goals and 40 assists for 74 points in 81 games this season. The last time he scored 34 goals was in 2017-18 with the Philadelphia Flyers. If he can get one more against the Sabres, it would be a new career high.Article content
