PUBLISHED 3:59 PM CDT Aug. 28, 2022EL PASO, Texas — Texas gubernatorial candidate Beto O'Rourke was diagnosed with a bacterial infection over the weekend and announced he'll be off the campaign trail for the foreseeable future. He first fell ill on Friday and is now resting at his home in El Paso.
The Democratic candidate for Texas governor shared his diagnosis and experience through a Twitter thread Sunday, thanking the custodians, nurses and doctors at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, where he was treated, for their "excellent care and attention." After feeling ill on Friday, I went to Methodist Hospital in San Antonio where I was diagnosed with a bacterial infection.
The extraordinary team there — from custodians to nurses and doctors — gave me excellent care and attention, including IV antibiotics and rest.In another tweet, O'Rourke apologized for having to postpone events. The Friday he was diagnosed with the infection, he had to cut a book signing short due to feeling ill.
"I am sorry to have had to postpone events because of this, but promise to be back on the road with you as soon as I am able," he said in the post.He's up against Gov. Greg Abbott on Nov. 8 and hopes to turn Texas blue, campaigning for issues such as gun safety and reproductive rights.
