While Abbott has consistently been leading the polls, O'Rourke is confident the next generation will show up to inspire change in Texas.

PUBLISHED 1:45 PM CDT Oct. 29, 2022TEXAS — We are just about one week out from the midterm elections. In the marquee race for governor, Republican incumbent Greg Abbott and Democratic challenger Beto O’Rourke are crisscrossing the state as they make their closing arguments to voters.

O'Rourke criticized Abbott for Texas leading the nation in school shootings and having the most extreme abortion ban in the country “It’s going to take what we’re seeing today at the University of Texas at Austin. There are more than one thousand young people who have come out, not just to cheer, not just even to vote, but to knock on the doors of those who have been targets for suppression and intimidation and bring them out to vote as well,” he said at a Get Out The Vote rally at UT Austin Friday. “When we do that, we win.

O’Rourke faces an uphill battle as Democrats nationwide struggle with messaging around inflation and the economy. But he focused on Texas, saying he would raise the minimum wage to $15 per hour, expand Medicaid in order to bring down property taxes and up the share of state spending for public education.
