Tropical Storm Beryl , downgraded from a Category 1 hurricane midmorning Monday, continued to move across through the Houston area after making landfall near Matagorda Bay , knocking out power for more than 2 million CenterPoint customers amid intense rain and winds. Beryl has brought damaging winds and flooding into the Houston region and and has triggered tornado warnings as it heads for the northern suburbs.
' Authorities reported the peninsula had at least a foot of water on it making roadways impassable. Law enforcement shut down the roadway just before the curve in High Island because it's underwater, officials said. 'Our captain witnessed fish swimming across the road in front of his truck,' wrote officials with the High Island Volunteer Fire Department, on Facebook.
