A man was hospitalized after a weekend injury shooting in a Berkeley neighborhood, authorities said.
Officers received a call at 2:40 p.m. reporting a possible shooting near Sacramento Street and Ashby Avenue, Berkeley police Lt. Robert Cummings said in a statement Sunday.
As officers headed to the scene, they learned that a man suffering from a gunshot wound was being taken in a private vehicle to a hospital. It was not clear if he self-transported or received a ride from friends or associates. The man was treated for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his leg, Cummings said. His exact condition was not immediately available Sunday evening. After speaking with witnesses who said they had seen a white Toyota fleeing southbound along Sacramento shortly after the shooting, investigators believe it may be related to a separate physical altercation that happened in the same area around 12:20 p.m. between a man and woman.Contact George Kelly at 408-859-5180.
