Bar None closed recently, 23 years after it moved into the second floor of 164 Water Street in St. John's. Two benefits shows for the bar's owner, Neil Pottle, are scheduled for this Friday and Saturday at The Deck on George Street. — Keith Gosse/The TelegramST. JOHN'S, N.L. — Members of the St. John's music scene are coming together to support the owner of a beloved downtown bar that recently closed its doors.

Will Hapgood owns The Deck, the bar hosting a two-night benefit show this weekend billed as Neil Fest, named after Bar None owner Neil Pottle. Hapgood has played in bands and performed at Bar None over the years. But he didn't need to hold an instrument in order to spend time there. "It was a very chilled atmosphere. They played more heavy music, which is definitely more my scene than the dance stuff," Hapgood said."Neil played a big part of it."Hapgood also credits the owner for having a great instinct when it came to hiring staff to work the bar.
