In a recent interview with the SaltWire Network, Bell Canada president and CEO Mirko Bibic defended cellular prices in Canada by indicating that consumers get what they pay for and that lower prices would most assuredly come with a decrease in quality, consistency and performance. FILESYDNEY – The head of one of Canada’s largest telecommunications companies is making no apologies for the nation’s high cost of wireless service.
“If our goal was to have the lowest prices I can guarantee that we will not have good networks in Canada. You can’t have leading infrastructure in a country this size with this few people in it. We want leading infrastructure here because that is what is going to power the modern economy. “At Bell, we actually spend about $800 in capital investment per subscriber per year and that’s more than any other telecommunications company in North America,” claimed Bibic.
Mirko Bibic, president and CEO of BCE and Bell Canada:"If our goal was to have the lowest prices I can guarantee that we will not have good networks in Canada." FILE - CONTRIBUTEDBibic said Bell Canada plans to increase its internet speed across Atlantic Canada. He said the network’s top speed of 1.5 gigabits per second will be doubled by November. He also noted that approximately 80 per cent of Nova Scotia households now have access to fibreop service.
“Our corporate purpose is advancing how Canadians connect with one another, so it’s all about serving our customers with the critical network connectivity that they need. So, our job is to deliver the very best internet and wireless networks and the services that use those networks to our customers.”On July 8, another Canadian telecommunications company, Rogers, experienced a massive outage that affected wireless, internet and cable services across the country.
