Calgary man calls B.S. on city hall's good-news CTrain safety tour yyc yyccc Column by sunrickbell:
What does he think of the city’s changes making the CTrain so much safer.“I’ve yet to see any safety measures at all. You still see the same drug addicts at the stations. You don’t barely see any security riding on the LRT. I don’t see what changes they’re talking about.”
But we were on the train for a few minutes, the whole group of us huddled together, and nothing bad happened.“Nothing’s changed. You’re seeing drug addicts. You’re seeing people getting harassed. I don’t like seeing that stuff so I step in. I’m not going to wait for a security guy. I’m not going to push the Help button.”Article content
Security and Calgary Police bike unit members stand by as Calgary Mayor Jyoti Gondek holds a press conference after taking a ride on the 7th Avenue LRT line on June 8.“I’ll make sure he’s off on the next stop and he isn’t harassing any people just trying to get to work.”“Set him straight just like the old man used to, you know. People have to show respect and know your manners.”Tyler says what he sees in our tour can be summed up in one word. Publicity.
What would he say if he could talk to the mayor, just steps away taking questions from the newshounds?“It isn’t safe out there. A lot of people are still afraid to come in and use the system. It’s not as safe as she thinks it is.”Article content“Bringing you guys in mid-day. Get real.”It was a gongshow in certain spots downtown and I did not see any transit officers.Tyler mentions he was in the army. I’m an old army brat and he mentions being stationed here in Calgary and in Petawawa in Ontario.
A lot of words are spoken but few of those words are the words of the street. They are the words of paper shufflers and number crunchers.By the way, all those running the show ask us to try the CTrain. Seeing is believing.
