The camaraderie far outweighs the friendly competition. All proceeds go directly to the Child Advocacy Center in Mobile.
) - If you’re in Downtown Mobile on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., you’re likely to smell the strong aroma of good ole-fashioned Cajun cooking.
“We’ve got some good chefs... I can almost smell it,” said Elaine Henderson, Director of Development and PR at the Child Advocacy Center. “When a child is abused- they come here. It’s comforting, it’s welcoming inside and outside- it’s like home.” said Henderson. “We have law enforcement on staff-- we have a team of DHR, we have the District Attorney’s Office so we have multiple agencies that handle the child abuse cases,” explained Henderson.“Last year, children came through our doors about 1100 times. When they come here for therapy- they will continue to come, weekly, monthly, just depending,” Henderson added.
