A new\u002Dto\u002DCanada brand that offers a \u0022genderless lens\u0022 on skincare.
Started in 2016 by co-founders Nina Zilka and David J. Krause, the vegan-friendly brand aims to offer “clean” skincare products that are appealing in design and work on all skin types. “Alder New York combines science-backed ingredients with time-tested plant extracts to create a synergistic range of personal care products that leave skin clear, healthy, and balanced,” according to the brand’s website.
She tried three products from the range: the Balancing Serum , Nourishing Cream , and Hydrating Oil , and was pleased with the performance of each.Article content The lightweight serum features a blend of hyaluronic acid and five-per-cent niacinamide to control redness, oil production, and help to even skin texture. Our tester found one pump of the oil-free product covered skin nicely and absorbed well.
The Nourishing Cream, which features a host of skin-loving ingredients such as vegan squalane, jojoba oil and bakuchiol — a retinol alternative — hydrates skin while also targeting fine lines and wrinkles. The cream was moisturizing without being too thick and remained comfortable on skin throughout the day, even under sunscreen.
But it was the brand’s Hydrating Oil that was our tester’s favourite. Featuring vegan squalane, MCT and jojoba oil, the product gave her skin instant hydration and noticeable toning. Featuring a light fragrance of rosemary, cedarwood and lime essential oils, it provided a nice scent experience along with the skin-loving effects.
