The BCHL top prospects game also dovetails for NHL Scouts with the CHL top prospects game, which is coming next Wednesday at the Langley Events Centre. Meanwhile, the alumni and friends game is set to feature former NHLers Turris, Scott Niedermayer, Brendan Morrison, Geoff Courtnall and Garry Valk. Morrison, Turris and Courtnall played in the loop, while Niedermayer and Valk both have sons in the league. Garrett Valk, who’s a 20-year-old defenceman with the Langley Rivermen, is slated to be in the hardest shot portion of the skills contest this weekend.
“Those games can usually be pretty sleepy, but I don’t think this one will,” Cocker said of the alumni and friends game “It’s going to be fun to see what those guys have left in their tanks.” Turris is also slated to be a guest coach for the top prospects game, sharing the Team West bench with Nanaimo Clippers bench boss Colin Birkas. Former NHLer Duncan Keith, who also played in the BCHL, is the guest coach for Team East, working alongside Vees skipper Fred Harbinson.There are four 3-on-3 teams, with two from each conferenceThe league has the weekend off from regular season play.
