On July 14, an officer with the BC Highway Patrol was conducting enforcement southbound on the highway near the McKenzie overpass. The posted speed limit along this particular stretch of highway is 80 km/h.

Shortly after 10:30 p.m., the officer saw two motorcyclists travelling at a high speed under the overpass. The officer established they were travelling at a speed of 143 km/h, according to RCMP. The KTM and Kawasaki bikes were stopped and impounded for one week. The two riders were issued violation tickets of $483 each for excessive speeding under the BC Motor Vehicle Act.
