'It was done in consultation with many of the victims of Jimmy Savile.'
The Alan Partridge actor also commented that he had made sure to create a good working relationship with the actors who were portraying Savile's victims before filming any scenes, so the lines between the character and him wouldn't get blurred.
He recalled:"I'd go and talk to them as myself and go 'Hi, I'm Steve, I'm not Jimmy Savile, that's who I'm going to play today'. "'And you're playing a role and we're going to do it professionally', and it was so that they knew that I was someone else.
