Scotland were beaten 17-13 by Ireland in Dublin to confirm the hosts as Six Nations champions for the second year running.
Former Scotland rugby star Colin Gregor slammed Gregor Townsend for his upbeat comments following their loss to Ireland in the Six Nations.
England had been the only team to beat Ireland in the Six Nations last week, with a 23-22 win at Twickenham. As a result, Scotland were seen as the underdogs going into Saturday's match, and the outcome stayed true to these expectations. However, Townsend showed understanding towards his losing squad after the final whistle, telling BBC Radio Scotland, "I feel really proud. All 23 - the effort they put in today in one of the toughest environments to play in", reports the Express.
Townsend heaped praise on his players after their narrow defeat to Ireland. "Our forwards did really well, Stafford McDowall carried hard at times. We probably didn't get the rewards in the first half. It was a very close Test match until we got a man in the bin, but I'm so proud of the guys."
