The restaurant in Santa Clara first opened in 1979.

that its South Bay outpost, at 3775 El Camino Real, was closing for good. Dwight Colton, president of The Fish Market, called the store closure “an unexpected development.”

“We have had an amazingly long and proud history at our Santa Clara location since our opening in 1979,” Colton said in a statement. “We have been blessed to have had such a dedicated and loyal group of employees and feel honored that so many have chosen to make the Fish Market Santa Clara their place to work. Our success is owed entirely to them.”

The Fish Market in Santa Clara temporarily closed during the pandemic but reopened for outdoor dining and takeout in. It’s unclear when the store eventually closed again, but Colton wrote that the aftermath of COVID-19 made it challenging to reopen at all. He added that the “uncertainty of the economic times” and a labor shortage had added more strain and pushed the store to permanent closure.that he wasn’t sure when the Santa Clara restaurant would return.
