The store, located in the Valley Fair Shopping Center at Stevens Creek Boulevard, has been open for 67 years. “The decision to close this store isn’t one we made lightly or without a great deal of deliberation,” a Safeway spokesperson said. “Like all retailers, we continuously evaluate the performance of our stores, and occasionally it’s necessary to close locations that aren’t meeting financial expectations.

When reached by phone, a manager for the Stevens Creek Safeway confirmed the news and said signs informing customers of the closure were posted outside of the store. They declined to provide further comment. All employees will have the option to continue working at surrounding Safeway stores, three of which remain open in Santa Clara at 2605 The Alameda, 2760 Homestead Road and 3970 Rivermark Plaza, the spokesperson said, adding nearly 40 other stores can be found in Santa Clara County.
