The driver was reportedly evading the CHP in a reckless manner, driving at speeds of greater than 100 miles per hour and swerving in and out of all lanes.
CAPITOLA — Officers arrested four Bay Area men they say led them on a high-speed highway pursuit in a stolen vehicle early Tuesday morning.
The chase began shortly before 2 a.m. on southbound Highway 1, when the California Highway Patrol attempted to pull over an allegedly speeding driver in a black 2017 Hyundai Tucson. The vehicle had been reported stolen out of Oakland earlier this month. Pursuing the vehicle from north of Buena Vista Drive in Freedom, the officer followed the SUV to the Main Street offramp. There, the driver performed a U-turn back onto the highway, headed northbound.
The driver, later identified by police as Josue Fernando Valdez-Amezcua, 27, of Oakland, was reportedly evading the CHP in a reckless manner, driving at speeds of greater than 100 mph and swerving in and out of all lanes.
