‘Bawa is cruel and hates us’ Sikhakhane tells section 194 committee
On Thursday, Mpofu asked committee chairperson Qubudile Dyantyi to give Sikhakhane and Ngalwana a platform “to voice their formal objection to the committee via you, chairperson, and to the Parliament” about what happened last week.
He said the “gravity” of what Bawa had done, showing the figures in public, was “great” for black women, junior legal professionals. He called their appearance before the committee “an extraordinary occurrence”. Sikhakhane said they sought not to correct the figures, but to make a point that the figures could have been part of the evidence without showing the names of the lawyers.
Sikhakhane said Bawa had failed to provide any context when flighting the figures and the period in which the amounts were accrued. Dyantyi also told Sikhakhane that he would fail in his duty as committee chair if he did not defend Bawa and that the issues Sikhakhane had raised were not “advocate Bawa’s issue”.
